The purpose of this study is to inquire on the meanings of some poetic words in the collection of poem Hyangsu by Cho Byeok-am, who went to North Korea. In this study I inquire into the language within a period by some texts in Korean literature. There are many words in poem by Cho Byeok-am which aren't used in these days or are used as dialects. Therefore his poem is good to study language in those days. To understand a literature we mush understand the exact meaning of vocabulary used in the works. Expecially the works which were written in the early 20th century must be proceeded. There are a lot of difference between the modern works and the works in the early 20th century. It is not the problems by emotions but the problems by words whose meaning cannot be understanded. In addition some words were used differently in those days even though they exist in these days. Unless the process is studied, we can's help knowing the incorrect meaning of the vocabulary cannot but read the different works compared to the original works in case the meaning of the words is translated incorrectly. Therefore it is essential not only to study the Korean literature but also to study the Korean language so that we may understand the literature works well. In this script the vocabulary is complicated words in the collection of poem Hyangsu by Cho Byeok-am. The complicated words are the difficult words such as 'Gomteuda', 'Gaegushada', 'Seulpjikhada', 'Seogeupheuda', 'Mipssalmeoriseureopda', 'Moseul'. 'Haeseolpi', 'Doembak' which don't exist in the modern dictionary. The study is to inquire into the early 20th century vocabulary in the collection of poem Hyangsu by Cho Byeok-am and to consider the exact meaning of words. Accordingly this script will be helpful in the study of Korean literature.
