대학생의 사교육 참여 및 사교육비 지출에 영향을 미치는 변인 분석

Analysis on the Influential Factors on Private Tutoring Expenditure of Korean College Students

이 논문은 2006년 한국교육고용패널자료를 활용하여 대학생들의 사교육비 지출 현황을 분석하고, 이들의 사교육 참여 여부 및 비용 지출에 영향을 미치는 개인변인, 가정변인, 학교변인을 밝히고 있다. 청년층 취업 문제가 심각해지면서 오늘날 많은 대학생들은 취직 대비 시험, 어학 능력 증대, 자격증 취득 등을 위한 사교육비를 지출하고 있으며, 이는 학생들의 대학 생활에 직·간접적인 영향을 미치게 된다. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리 교육에서는 주로 초·중등 단계에서의 사교육 문제에만 관심을 기울여 온 경향이 있으며, 실제로 어떠한 요인이 대학생들의 사교육에 영향을 미치는지에 대한 실증적인 분석은 부족한 것이 사실이다. 대학생들의 사교육 참여 현황과 그것에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석한 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 평점백분위 점수, 대학유형, 전공계열 등은 대학생들의 사교육 참여 여부에 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있다. 둘째, 고등학교 3학년 시절 사교육 경험, 수강태도, 월평균 가계소득 등은 사교육비 지출 규모에 유의미한 영향을 미치고 있다.

This article analyzes the influential factors on the private tutoring expenditure of Korean college student. Recently college students spend much money for job preparation in Korea. They pay private tutoring expenditure to take tests such as civil service examination or teacher appointment examinations. In addition, they take many classes in private institution to improve foreign language skills. We used the 3th waves of KEEP(Korea Education & Employment Panel) data. Using Hackman's two-stage sample selection model, we analyzed the type, range and the influential factors on private tutoring participation and expenditure. The results are reported as follows. First, GPA, university type, and academic subject were the statistically significant variables for participation of private tutoring. Second, tutoring experience at highschool, attitude in class, and family income were the statistically significant variables for the expenditure.
