세계윤리의 구성에 관한 연구

세계화, 즉 지구촌으로의 이행은 종교적 및 윤리적 전통들 간의 만남을 증진시키고 그와 더불어 갈등과 대립을 노정시킨다. 세계화는 윤리의 세계화에 대한 논의를 촉진시키고 있다. 전통의 차이는 이념적 지향과 생활방식의 차이를 낳게 마련이다. 여기에 연유하는 『문명의 충돌』에 관한 경고는 우리들로 하여금 “지구촌은 지구윤리를 보장하는가?”라는 근본문제에 관해 고뇌하도록 한다. 세계윤리를 어떻게 ‘구성’할 수 있는가? 필자는 세계윤리 확립의 2단계 접근법에 의거하여 제1단계의 얇은 도덕, 최소도덕, 기본도덕을 확인 또는 정립한 바탕위에서 제2단계의 두터운 도덕, 최대도덕, 분화된 도덕에 관한 연구에로 나아가고자 한다. 세계윤리 제1단계의 기본도덕을 마련해 줄 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 향후 제2단계로의 윤리적 발전을 뒷받침해 줄 수 있을 접근방법으로, 합의 가능한 공통의 토대에 의거하는 국제법의 기획, 천부적 자연성에 입각해 있는 자연법의 전통, 기존의 공통적 도덕들을 발굴하여 새롭게 활성화 시키고자 하는 종교들 간의 대화에 관해 논의한다. 이들 각각이 어떻게 그리고 어떤 내용으로 세계윤리를 위한 공통기반을 마련해 주고 있는지를 밝힌다. 필자는 또한 우리가 ‘구성’하고자 하는 세계윤리는 다양한 문명이 공존하면서 상호교류가 증대되고 있는 오늘의 세계에서 요망되는 몇 가지의 공통원칙들을 충족시킬 수 있어야 한다는 책무를 중요시 한다.

We live in a world where interactions across national boundaries increase. As globalization intensify ethic must itself globalized. Ethical debates about globalization are themselves globalized. How can we constitute global ethic? This study focus on the constitutional method and content of global ethic in ethical multiple traditions. First of all I selected the project of International Law, Natural Law Tradition and Declaration Toward Global Ethic by Religions Parliament of 1993 in Chicago as the main sources toward universal global ethic. And then I come to think about global ethic as a two-level(two-tier) phenomenon. It is the two-level approach to global ethics. First level is self-standing international discourse that seek to define a minimum set of standard agreeable to all. At second level we have a multiplicity of different ethical traditions. The essential theme in this study is to illuminate the ethical contents of the first level. Moral traditions determine what a person sees as morally significant. The project of this essay seems inevitably tied to the question of conditions under which conversation among various ethical traditions can go forward.
