세계화 시대의 `세계윤리` 탐구

세계화는 인류역사에 있어 전대미문의 대사변이다. 세계화 개념은 1980년대 중반부터 활발하게 사용되기 사작하였는데, 우선적으로 이 개념은 세계의 압축과 전체세계에 대한 의식의 강화를 뜻한다. 세계화는 세계경제, 지구생태계, 세계정치에 있어 많은 갈등과 위기를 조성하고 있다. 더불어 세계질서를 보장해줄 수 있을 세계윤리에 대한 기대를 고조시키고 있다. 세계화 시대의 세계윤리를 탐구하고자하는 이 논의는 먼저 도덕상대주의를 부추기는 이 시대의 다원주의와 상대주의에 주목한다. 이어서 세계윤리를 요망하는 갈등의 원천이면서 동시에 세계윤리의 구성내용으로 수용될 수 있는 세계화 이데올로기들의 이념적 지향과 중심 가치들을 검토한다. 논자는 세계화 모델을 (1)신자유주의 모델, 즉 새로운 세계질서로서의 세계화론, (2)사회발전 모델, 즉 사회발전으로서의 세계화론, (3)지구중심주의 모델, 즉 지방화로서의 세계화론, (4)신식민주의 모델, 즉 신 식민주의로서의 세계화론으로 대별하고, 각 이데올로기들이 표방하는 가치덕목들로서 (1)개인주의·번영·자유, (2)책임·진보·공정성, (3)상호성·정의·지속 가능성, (4)공동체, 문화, (공동체적)자율성 등을 음미한다. 이어서 ‘세계윤리’탐구의 선례이며 범례로서, 세계 종교 회의에서 채택된 ‘세계윤리를 향한 선언’을 구명한다. ‘선언’은 하나의 기본원칙과 네 가지의 지침으로 구성되어 있는데, 여기서는 (1)평화와 생명존중, (2)성실과 정직(정의), (3)진실성·신뢰(진실함과 사람다움), (4)상호존중이 중심 가치로 평가된다. 논의는 ‘선언’의 ‘세계윤리’ 이해가 너무 좁게 파악되고 있음을 지적하고 세계화 이데올로기들의 가치이념들을 포괄하는 보완적이며 확장적인 시각을 견지하면서 ‘사람다운 좋은 삶’을 지향하는 (1)목적존재로서의 인간의 존엄성, (2)권력관계의 민주화, (3)경제정의, (4)주민의 복지, (5)지구환경에 대한 배려 등을 세계윤리 구축을 위한 기본개념으로 제시한다.

1. Globalization is a great event in the human history. Concept of globalization has been used actively from the middle in 1980 and it means concentration of the world and strengthening of consciousness about the global world. Nowadays we need global ethic to resolve disagreements and conflicts across national, religious, and cultural differences. A vision of global ethic rest on hopes, goals, ideals, standards. 2. In the first place this thesis analyse ideologies of globalization as (1)Globalization as New World Order, (2)Globalization as Social Development, (3)Globalization as Localization, (4)Globalization as Neocolonialism in order to understand central values that every globalization ideology strives. After that this thesis study on the `Declaration Toward a Global Ethic` proposed by the Parliament of World`s Religions. It aims to development the contents of global ethic more concretely. Global Ethic in Declaration consist of a fundamental demands: every human being must be treated humanely, and four irrevocable directives. 3. By analysis of ideologies of globalization and study on the contents of `Declaration Toward a Global Ethic`, this thesis come to the advanced directives of global ethic: (1)human dignity, (2)democratization of relations of power, (3)economic justice, (4)social well-being of people, (5)care for the environment of the Earth. There will be no better global order without a global ethic.
