청각장애인 진로성숙도 척도개발을 위한 기초 연구

A preliminary study on the development of a career maturity scale for persons with hearing impairment

청각장애인은 장애의 비가시성과 의사소통의 제약으로 인해 진로성숙에 있어 부정적 요소를 경험하게 된다. 일반적으로 초기 발달기에 경험하는 대인관계 장벽이나 상호작용상의 어려움은 심리적, 교육적 과정에 역기능으로 작용하게 된다. 그로 인해 청각장애인은 직업배치에서 직장에의 부족한 사회기술이나 부적절한 대인관계 기술로 인해 종종 취업에 실패하거나 고용유지에 실패한다. 이에, 본 연구는 청각장애인 직업재활을 위한 임상활동과 경험적 연구를 촉진시켜줄 수 있는 필요한 기초를 생성하기 위해 진로성숙 척도개발에 필요한 항목과 영역들을 구명하는 데에 목적을 두었다. 청각장애인용 진로성숙 척도개발을 위한 평가항목들을 일차적으로 다루게 되며, 나아가 자아존중감, 적성 및 흥미, 사회관계기술, 의사소통기술, 직장환경, 직업적응 등의 내용을 바탕으로 내담자의 진로성숙 정도를 나타내는 요인들의 항목을 구분한다. 또한 심리측정 척도개발에 선행하여 개인의 진로성숙 정도를 파악하는데 따르는 이론적 접근방식을 포괄적으로 다루게 된다. 진로성숙이라는 하나의 개념을 구성체(construct)와 개별요인들과 심리발달상의 의미를 청각장애인이 지니는 특성의 맥락에서 재조명한다. 진로발달이론은 신체, 인지, 사회성과 같이 일에 대한 태도, 지식, 기능 등이 어려서부터 발달하기 시작하여 점진적으로 성숙하여 진다고 보는 이론이다. 이 이론에서 일에 대한 가치관, 직업선택, 의사결정양식, 역할수행, 직업적 정체감, 교육기회, 직업에의 적응, 그리고 그와 관련된 현상과 그에 영향을 주거나 상관이 있는 변인을 찾아낼 수 있게 된다. 청각장애인 직업적응의 목적 중 하나는 청각장애인이 직업상황에서 적절히 기능할 수 있도록 그들의 취약 능력을 향상시키는 것이며, 청각장애와 잠재능력의 제한 속에서 최대의 기능화를 돕는 것이며 변화하는 현재상황과 다가올 미래에서 성숙된 직업태도와 직업인식을 가지고서 사회구성원으로서 생활하는 데에 적으나마 기여할 수 있을 것으로 여겨진다.

This is a preliminary study of developing a career maturity scale for persons with hearing impairment. Vocational evaluation is one of the most significant phases of vocational rehabilitation of persons with disabilities. It is aimed at investigating important areas and items of career maturity in general and examined the applicability of these to the special population of hearing impairment. The world of work and the labor market has been changing rapidly in this information society, making persons with disability to face with a variety of hardships in the areas of work adjustment, vocational stabilization, communication, and technology. Research findings have been indicated that people with hearing impairment tend to have limited literacy abilities, compared to the general population due to the lack of a compensation mechanism and opportunities of quality education, although the self exploration and career planning in terms of the world of work. Therefore, special attentions are required when developing an assessment tool that can be used in the vocational rehabilitation setting. In this study, four major themes of career maturity are identified; occupational attitude, career decisiveness, career awareness, and reality orientation. Career maturity inventories should help persons with disabilities understand their vocational potentials as well as the world of work in a reality basis. The results of this study should also provide rehabilitation practitioners with accumulated data about the vocational characteristics of persons with hearing impairment.
