A Study on the Characteristics of Contemporary Art

컨템포러리의 시간성과 포스트모더니즘의 정신구조의 특성들이 함께 접합된 현재의 미술이 바로 우리 시대의 미술, 즉 동시대 미술이다. 동시대 문화현상을 설명하는 포스트모더니즘에 대한 이해를 기반으로 동시대 미술의 특성이 추출될 수 있다. 동시대 미술은 다양성과 다원성을 기반으로 하며 미술내의 장르별 구분이 와해되고 미술이외의 영역으로 확장되는 특성을 지닌다. 이러한 미술 패러다임의 변화는 궁극적으로 소통과 참여를 전제로 한다. 동시대 미술은 미술의 대중화 현상, 대중미술의 성장이라는 두 축이 함께 움직이며 문화의 민주화를 지향한다. 그러나 이러한 변화의 기반이자 결과인 미술시장의 성장은 미술에 경제논리가 적용되면서 문화의 민주화와는 다른 왜곡된 방식으로 나아가기도 한다. 포스트모더니즘을 바탕으로 이해하는 동시대 미술의 특성 분석은 시대성을 지닌 현실의 전달자, 참여자 혹은 개혁자로서의 현재의 미술이 현실을 파악하고 문화적 감수성을 기르기 위한 미술교육의 내용으로 충분한 교육적 의미를 담고 있다는 점을 확인하는 계기가 될 것이다.

It is needed prior understanding of the postmodernism to see the contemporary time and society including the contemporary art. The contemporary society is the postmodernism society and the characteristics of postmodernism imposed the characteristics of the dynamic contemporary art. Based on the above relationship, four characteristics of the contemporary art are extracted diversity and pluralism, collapse and expansion of genre, communication and participation, popularization of art. The contemporary art has bases on cultual diversity and pluralism. That collapses the boundaries among parts of art and expands into other area. The change of art paradigm is based on the communication and participation. The contemporary art has the direction to the cultual democracy with the popularization of art and the growth of popular art. In the other hand, change leads the art into the logic of economics, art market. The art is expanding its roles and functions in the dynamic society. The contemporary artists lead the current paradigm and cultural phenomena in their creating actions. These contemporary art shall have one of important roles of art education to understand the current society and to grow the cultural sensitivity.
