『파이드로스』에 나타난 영혼과 수사학의 교육적 의미

The Educational Implication of Soul and Rhetoric on Plato's Phaedrus

본 연구는 플라톤의 중·후기 저작인 󰡔파이드로스󰡕에 대한 교육학적 고찰이다. 󰡔파이드로스󰡕는 다양한 내용을 아우르고 있는데, 특히 ‘영혼’과 ‘수사학’이라는 두 가지 측면을 전·후반부에서 핵심주제로 다루고 있다. 본고 전반부에서는 ‘영혼’ 개념을 고찰하였다. 󰡔파이드로스󰡕에 등장하는 인간관으로 볼 때 인간은 교육을 필요로 하는 존재이고, 이는 상기설을 바탕으로 한 ‘날개의 비유’를 통해 분명해진다. 후반부에서는 수사학에 대한 내용을 다루었는데, 󰡔파이드로스󰡕에서 플라톤은 기존의 수사학을 비판하는 동시에 수사학을 말(logos)을 통해 인간의 영혼을 진리의 길로 인도하는 과정으로 파악하고, 수사학의 목적과 방법에 대해 깊이 있게 논의하고 있다. 이는 교육의 방법을 구체적으로 지시한 것이다. 이와 같이 󰡔파이드로스󰡕는 교육의 목적과 내용, 방법을 통일적으로 다룬 교육학 저작이다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the educational implication of soul and rhetoric on Plato's Phaedrus. Even though Phaedrus has been a target from many philosophers, the value of Phaedrus as texts on education is still overlooked; however some topics of Phaedrus are clearly educational, therefore we can get many implications from it. At the former chapter, the focus is to the concept of 'soul(psyche)'. On human, there were dichotomy between body(soma) and soul(psyche) in Ancient Greek, and the one which control the human beings is considered as soul. In Phaedrus, soul is described to be supported by education and nurturing. Also, the meaning of wings on the soul are the passion to the Idea and the power which makes education of soul are ongoing. At the latter chapter, the focus is to the concept of 'rhetorics'. Although Plato were very critical on rhetorics, he didn't show his hostility very much. Rather, he tried to write about the purpose of 'rhetorics', and the process and method of 'rhetorics' By these process, we can define Plato's Phaedrus as a educational anthology.
