루소의 자연주의 교육사상

Rousseau's Educational Thoughts in Naturalism and its Implications for Current Children's Education

본 연구의 목적은 루소의 자연교육을 분석하고 이해하기 위한 것으로서 자연주의 교육의 의미와 현대아동교육에의 시사에 초점을 두었다. 루소는 ‘자연으로 돌아가라’ 라고 외치고 자연스럽게 접근하여 교육해 나가는 방법을 자연교육이라고 명명하였다. 루소가 말하고 있는 자연의 교육이란 인위적이고 과장된 것이 아닌 어떤 강요나 간섭도 하지 않는 자연스러운 성장을 의미하며 유아기 때 행복, 자발성, 호기심을 가질 수 있도록 용기를 북돋아 주는 것이라고 했다. 그러므로 그가 말하고 있는 자연의 의미란 생명의 원리와 인간성장발달의 자연법칙 반사회적이고 윤리적이며 신학적인 의미로도 간주하고 있다. 뿐만 아니라 루소가 말하는 자연적인 능력은 사회악으로부터 유아를 보호하고 강요하지 않으며 주변의 교사와 부모가 유아들을 지키는 것이라고 하였다. 궁극적으로 루소는 자연의 교육을 통해서 현대 민주주의 기틀을 다졌으며 아동중심의 교육과 전인교육 그리고 자연스러운 성장을 강조하는 현대교육에 시사점을 제공하고 있다.

The purpose of this study is to understand and analyze the natural education doctrine of Jean-Jacques Rousseau by focusing on what meaning of natural education and its implications for current children's education. Rousseau advocated a return to nature and a natural approach to educating children, called "natural education". The opening lines of Emile not only set the tone for Rousseau's educational views, but for many of his political ideas as well. To Rousseau, naturalism meant abandoning society's artificially and pretentiousness. A naturalistic education would permit growth without undue interference or restrictions. According to Rousseau, natural education promotes and encourages qualities such as happiness, spontaneity, and the inquisitiveness associated with childhood. In his method, parents and teachers allow children to develop according to their natural abilities and do not interfere with development by forcing education upon them or by protecting them from the corrupting influences of society. Also, the meaning of nature is the principle of life, a principle of natural growth to a human being, a concept of natural unfolding echoes and the ethical, theological meaning. Finally, Rousseau developed the basis of modern democracy and the growth of democratic citizen on the naturalistic education from the inborn character which provides its implications for current children's education.
