Nam Guman(1629~1711) has been know as a politician and a high ranking officer. If he could not have been instructed by Confucian thoughts, he cannot have gotten great career. But his Confucian thoughts have not been studied yet. The purpose of this paper is to explain his Confucian thoughts. But the book of collection of his works, Yak chon jip, does not include so much of what expressed his Confucian thoughts. However his manners and ideas of Confucian scholar from several bibliographic writings, discussions about Confucian rituals and the classical thnking related to the classic Change(Ju-Yok)in his mails, articles and memorials to the throne etc., show his Confucianism. In studying these materials, his life as a Confucian and Confucian thoughts as like methodology of self cultivation, theories of Confucian properties in the rituals, and thoughts of Change(Ju-Yok) have been studied. As the results of this study, three things can be discussed as remarkable things. The first, his Confucianism must be originated from the linear of Ki-ho school. The second, he was very rigorous to keep the heterodoxy away from orthodoxy. The third, his discussions about the Confucian properties are not simply limited to the discussion of theoretical and ideal items but ultimately expanded to the substantial and beneficial governing.
