최근의 환경 변화는 R&D투자가 기업의 수익으로 연결되는데 대한 불확실성을 증가시킴으로써 기업들로 하여금 단순 투자규모보다는 R&D 투자 효율성에 주목하도록 하고 있다 그럼에도 불구하고 국내 기업들의 R&D 투자 효율성에 대한 검증은 상대적으로 미흡하며, 기업 경쟁력 강화를 위해 성장성과 수익성을 높일 수 있는 R&D 활동이 요구된다 따라서 본 연구에서는 기업 활동, R&D 투자 효율성 및 재무성과 간 관계를 중소 제조기업을 대상으로 실증적으로 분석하였다 구체적으로는 기업 활동(기업 내부의 교육훈령과 보상, 외부의 기술연계와 정부정책자금지원)과 R&D 투자 효율성 간 관계, 그리고 R&D 투자 효율성과 재무성과(수익성, 성장성 및 효율성) 간 관계를 분석하였다 90개 중소 제조기업을 대상으로 분석한 결과, 교육훈련과 외부기술연계가 R&D 투자 효율성에 정적으로 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며 R&D 투자 효율성도 전반적으로 재무성과에 유의한 정의 관계를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 중소 제조기업이 교육훈련과 외부기술연계를 잘 활용한다면 R&D 투자 효율성을 제고할 수 있다는 것을 시사한다 또 R&D 투자 효율성 제고에 성공한다면 보다 높은 재무성과를 기대할 수 있음을 제시한다

This study aims at investigating the determinants of R&D investment efficiency empirically in Manufacturing SMEs This study suggests that education/training, compensation, external technical cooperation, and government funding have significant effects on R&D investment efficiency, and that R&D investment efficiency has significant effect on financial performance To test the hypotheses, data were collected from manufacturing SMEs The survey data of 90 firms were collected and integrated as the empirical base for testing the hypotheses Major results are as follows Firstly, education/training and external technical cooperation had significant and positive effects on R&D investment efficiency But compensation and government funding were not significantly related to R&D investment efficiency This result implies that education/training and external technical cooperation are an important means by which manufacturing SMEs can promote R&D investment efficiency Secondly R&D investment efficiency generally had significant and positive effects on financial performance This result implies that R&D investment efficiency guarantees the success of firms
