영어관사 사용오류에 대한 한국인 EFL 연구자의 자기회고적 사례연구

A self-reflective case study of a Korean EFL researcher on his errors of English articles.

This paper analyzes the types and causes of English article errors of a Korean EFL (English as a Foreign Language) researcher by the methodological approach of self-reflective analysis This paper especially focuses on the four major rules discourse rules, syntactic rules, lexical rules, and semantic rules of governing English article system and the five criteria specificity, identifiability, definiteness, systematicity, and lexical category for determining the application of articles Having this analytical framework in mind, the author analyzes the article errors in his own English academic writings and discusses how the article errors are affected by the analytical framework This paper found that the considerable cases of article errors were induced by a lack of attention [-Attention] and insufficient knowledge of English idioms as well as wrong categorization of NP [-Lexical category], over-generalization/ under-specification [-Specificity/+Identifiability], a lack of systematicity [-Systematicity], and a wrong application of definiteness [±Definiteness] This paper provides the findings in a flowchart that represents the decision making process of English articles Finally, the significance of this paper's methodological approach and the pedagogical implication of the result are discussed
