중국의 전통철학은 중국 고대에 출현하여 역대 철학사상의 발전에 중대한 영향을 끼친 철학이론을 가리킨다. 체계적이며 이론적인 형태의 중국 전통철학사상은 春秋말기로부터 戰國시기에 이르는 시기에 출현하였다. 중국의 전통철학은 주로 춘추전국시기에 先秦諸子들이 제시한 세계의 본체, 사람과 자연과의 관계, 인식과 실천과의 관계 및 사회윤리의 가치 등 측면의 철학사상과 더 나아가 秦漢시기로부터 宋明理學이르는 시기에 이룩한 先秦철학사상의 계승과 발전을 가리킨다. 중국철학과 서양철학에서 사용하는 범주는 같지 않을 뿐만 아니라, 연구의 방식과 방법이 같지 않음으로 인하여 중국철학의 존재를 부정하는 것은 이치에 맞지 않는 것이다. 유가사상이 주류를 이루는 전통철학은 비록 여러 측면에 걸쳐 현대의 중국사상에 여전히 영향을 주고 있으나, 이러한 영향에 관하여 적어도 현재까지는 자각적이며 이성적인 인식이 결핍되어 왔다. 전통철학은 다분히 일종의 문화전승의 요소로 침잠하여 묵묵히 영향을 주고 있지만, 현대의 중국철학을 건설하거나 문화를 건설하는데 있어서 중요한 토대로서의 응당한 지위를 갖고 있는 것으로는 여겨지지는 못하고 있다. 따라서 중국 전통철학의 계승문제를 명확히 하기 위해서는 진일보된 토론이 필요하다.

The re-evaluation and re-explanationof the traditional philosophy is a theoreticalknotty problem faced by the Chinese philosophical circles of contemporary era. The so-called traditional Chinese philosophy refers to the philosophical theories that established in ancient China and had significant influences on the development of thoughts from generation to generation. In the process of the changes and rebuild of the contemporary Chinese ideological mode of thinking, traditional philosophy still maintains its profound and extensive influences, which embody as thoughts on the relationship between Heavenand Men, the raise of the theory on governing a country, the standard of moral ethics, and the way of thinking, etc. The purpose to study and research traditional philosophy is to carry on and to develop traditional philosophy, thus the rational way to rebuild Chinese philosophy should be the "comprehensive innovation".
