China’s market has recorded high growth that is expected to continue over the next 10 years and cause China’s GDP to quadruple by 2010. This report focuses on the structural features of China’s market, especially its entry barriers, analyzing the market by product, income level and region. This paper will also look at how entry barriers put in place by the central government and local governments can be lowered to promote an advance into China’s market. The Chinese government has been gradually relaxing its restrictions on imports and retail distribution. Moreover, its latent purchasing power is expected to be realized on a gradual basis, serving as an opportunity for China to accelerate the process of opening its economy to globalization.
