An attempt was made to theoretically characterize efficient vs. inefficient sport leaders on the basis of previous theoretical models on Leadership. In particular Quinn`s(1988) and Kim`s(1992) modified Korean version of Competing Values Leadership Model(CVLM), efficient sport leader was contrasted with inefficient sport leader in terms of six competing roles of leaders. Efficient sport leader were characterized to be the ones who were ideal, autonomous creative and stable respecting individual player`s unqueness and team spirits with long-term perspective on productivity. In contrast, inefficient sport leaders were theorized to have a profile of professional anarchical, and authoritative tendency as well as ambiguous goal awareness neglecting personal characteristics and ability of individual players. It was suggested that the viability of the theoretically derived characterization of efficient(ideal) sport leaders be tested with empirical research efforts in the future.
