There is generally a gap between an ideal and reality. Man make efforts to fill up the gap reaching his ideal. In this respect, the ideal of the Olympic Games is not an unattainable pipedream in the actual world we live in, but the product of rational spirit. Therefore, it is necessary to encourage the Pusan citizens to prepare for the Asian Games in 2002 and a new millennium by succeeding to and developing the sublime ideal of the Olympic spirit. These days, national sports can be considered on the basis of three categories physical education in school for fostering the healthy young men, sports for life as a social welfare for the improvement of the life quality and the purification of the social emotion, and professional sports (elite sports) as political and diplomatic means for the elevation of national status. More positive measures must be taken to improve the life quality and the standard of life for the desirable human life, to contribute to the improvement of physical functions, and to embody the Olympic spirit by holding the Pusan Asian Games in 2002 in preparation for the coming millennium.
