사도행전은 초대교회의 형성과정을 역동적으로 묘사한 성령의 복음서이다. 저자는 어떤 의도로 초대교회 공동체의 성립 가능성을 묘사하는 것일까? 왜냐하면, 초대교회 공동체가 성장해 가는 과정은 장부터 마지막장까지 시련과 박해의 연속이기 때문이다. 아마도 유대교에서 분리되어가는 과정과 박해를 극복해 가는 토대를 구성원들이 체험하는 회심으로 보고 있는 것이 아닐까? 개인적 체험은 공동체적 성장으로 확대되고 공동체의 회심은 구성원들의 실천적 삶으로 전환된다. 이런 관점에서 사도행전은 회심을 주제로 이야기의 흐름에 동력을 제공하는 사울의 회심과정을 극적으로 묘사한다.개인적인 회심체험이 공동체가 역사현장에서 역경을 극복하는 체험으로 승화된 경우이다. 회심 주제를 포괄적으로 다루고 극화하기 위해 사울의 개인적 차원의 체험은 코르넬리우스 사건으로 지평을 넓혀 완성된다. 논리적으로 이 과정을 준비하기 위해 필립포스와 마술사 시메온의 이야기 필리포스와 에티오피아인 내시의 세례 이야기를 제공하는 것도 이야기 서술의 묘미이다. 사도행전은 이렇게 성령의 움직임을 통해 회심 주제를 개인적 차원에 한정시키지 않고 초대교회 성장이라는 공동체적 차원으로 이해한다.

The Acts of the Apostles, which is the Gospel of the Holy Spirit, describes the expansion of the ealry church. What is the theological intention of the author of the Acts in descibing the developing process of the first church comminity in the Spirit? Wee see that this small community born in the midst of Judaism suffered oppression from its beginning. It is only its dynamism that helps overcome the suffering coming from conflicts both external and internal. Did the author of the Acts want to say that the fudnamental factor for the establishment of the church community is metanoia? We confirm that a personal conversion, grown into a communal dimension, is transformed and melted into the life of the community and of its members. From this point of view, the theme metanoia, of tha Acts, culminated in the episode of Saul, becomes the fundamental subject matter that renders vivid the flow of its whole story. This episode certainly shows that the personal dimension of metanoia has been rendered into the core dynamism that sublimates historically the frist community of the Acts. The theological view of the author becomes enlarged and perfect in the episode of Comelius which introduces seriously into the christian community the universalism of salvation. Thus the theme metanoia becomes the key factor in understanding the growth and expansion of the church; metanoia which was once introduced in a personal level makes possible its communal dimension in the Spirit.
