Peirce의 귀추의 개념에 대한 문제점에 대응하기

Defending Problems with Peirce's Concept of Abduction

귀추는 어떤 현상에 대하여 논리적으로 ‘최선을 가능하게 하는 추리과정’이다. 전통적으로 통용되던 연역과 귀납의 두 논리체계에 대하여 Peirce가 귀추를 제가하면서 귀추는 광범위하게 논의 되어왔다. 그러나 Peirce가 주장한 귀추의 문제점으로, ‘귀추도식의 전제에 결론 내용이 이미 존재한다는 점’과 ‘수많은 설명 가능한 가설의 폭주’라는 것이 일반적인 비평이다. 이를 극복하는 방안을 ㅌ오하여 새로운 과학적 탐구 프로그램을 제안, 실제적인 탐구과정의 적용가능성을 탐색하는 것이 이 논문의 목적이다. (1) 전제 속이 이미 포함되어 있지 않은 새로운 성질이나 관계 등에 대한 주장을 포함하는 가설의 형성은 어떻게 이루어지며, 그 과정에 대한 어떤 논리적 해명은 가능한가? 이 문제에 대한 해결의 실마리를 제공해주는 것은 유비귀추(analogical abduction)다. 과학적 이론의 생성은 유비귀추를 통해 창의적인 가설의 생성을 강조한다. 유비귀추를 통한 이론의 인과적 메커니즘을 보여준다. (2) 우리는 귀추를 발견의 논리로 보기에는 어렵다고 주장한다. 귀추의 전제 속에 이미 결과가 제시되어있기 때문이다. 이러한 문제점의 대응은 귀추의 엄격한 발견의 논리보다는 그럴듯함의 추구의 논리로 완화시켜, 추구의 논리 (logic of pursuit)로 보는 방향이다. 또한 우리는 가설들의 폭주에 대응하기 위해서는 귀추와 동시에 역추(retroduction)를 반드시 동반해야한다고 주장한다. 결국 역추는 가설의 제거와 필연성을 강조한다는 것이다. (3) 우리는 귀추를 목표-지향적인 가설 생성을 위한 전략으로 보는 것이다. 이러한 여러 결과들을 통해서 귀추전략을 사용한 종합적인 가설생성과 확증과정을 제안하고 과학사적인 사건을 통해 점검한다.

Abduction arouses increasing interest and methodological discussion in various fields. Abduction is inference procedure to invent an explanatory hypothesis. In the philosophical context abduction has, however, very often been subjected to severe criticism. There are, so to speak, various "classical" counter-arguments against abduction, as a logic of discovery especially that (1) in basic formulation of abduction the hypothesis is already presupposed to be known, so it is not the was hypotheses are discovered in the first place. In this paper, I argue, by bringing forth the idea of analogical abduction, and the meaning of strategies that these counter-arguments are weaker than may appear. (2) It seems to permit inferences to all sorts of wild hypotheses. In this paper, I argue, by bringing forth the idea of logic of pursuit, hypotheses's economics, and retroduction that this counter-arguments are weaker (3) this paper develops a scientific procedure and estimated this model bases on the history of science about astronomy.
