Life and Systematized Violence

  • 16

The source of national power may be regarded as violence, but is must be justified violence. However, non-democratic and authoritative control systems exercise unfair violence and make efforts to systematize it. In our country, the most important circumstance where systematization of unjust violence can exist is the dire reality of a divided nation. In this paper, a systematized violence refers to a system that results in non-democracy, and a system which invades human rights that initially started out from the past political power and that is still in existence today. Amongst the systematized violence, violence that infringes the right to live may be exemplified as mass death caused by management negligence on the part of the government. The negligence of security management in buildings and traffic facilities show that the government has been inattentive in securing people's lives. Also, a capital punishment shows a trait of systematic murder, and neglecting abortion is the type of violence that typically appear in government-centered, made-centered, pa patriarchal capitalism. Unjust restriction of human activities such as the abuse of voluntary arrest and immediate arrest may be defined as systematized violence which result from criminal procedures. Along with this other types of systematized violence include restricting the formation of free thoughts, and restricting the freedom of expression - imposing expressions that is contrary to one's conscience or unjustly restricting expressions. Restriction of expressions in the media, restriction of academic arts inspection, unjust restriction of gathering associations are systematized violence that suppresses the formation of free thoughts and expressions. In a patriarchal capitalist system like ours, political inequality regarding women, economic inequality for women, forbearance of poor-progress legislation on sexual violence, are all systematized violence of a male-centered society. With such violence on sexual discrimination, it could be said that relative inequality caused by the majority power - could also be a systematized violence. Non-democratic violence inequality for laborers still exist and unequal violence toward the socially disadvantaged group - disabled, children, senior citizens, etc. - still exist today. A system or regulation that supports any one particular side could be regarded as systematized violence. S When an unjust regulation or system is concentrated on one particular group of people, this could also be regarded as a systematized violence. They become the causes of social disease which could become an indirect act of murder that can violate the life of every member in the society.
