School violence is becoming a serious social problem. From the educational point of view, severe and strict control of violence or misconduct could bring some suppressive effect, whereas permissive and supportive measures tend to promote violence or misconduct. However, firm and strict control measure tend to restrict the emotional ability and the development of psychological ability such as the creative impulse. Therefore, the problem of school violence is an assignment that is highly complex and difficult to control. The reasons behind home violence are diverse depending on different theories. The psychological explanation sys that various unsatisfied desires become the cause of this aggressive behavior. On the other hand, there is the socio-environmental explanation which says that school violence is caused and maintained by sociostructural reason. There is also an approach that connect school violence with home violence and focuses on the assailant's subjective motive. School violence which has several complex causes (as mentioned above) cannot be controlled by merely strict principles. Regarding the formation of social atmosphere to guide violence in school, we must transform the culture which has the tendency to be too lenient on violence. Accordingly, students will not have the temptation or thoughts about violence and they will be raised to regard any violence as a an inhuman behavior. Cultivating ethics may also be another shortcut to reducing violence. The degree of development in civilization and culture largely depends of how violence is prevented and controlled. School violence could be a yardstick that represents how successful an education can be. In the case of our country where the quantitative development of education took place rapidly, how we can raise the quality level is closely related to how we successfully control violence in our schools.
