Romanian symbolism is introduced for the first time by Alexandru Macedonski (1854-1920) through the his literary magazine Literatorul (Literary man, 1880). He cultivates and develops symbolistic theory and practice it in his theoretic works as About logics of poetry (1880), Art of poems (1881), Future poetry (1892) and invents new theory named ‘Instrumental symbolism’ or ‘Instrumentalism’ which emphasize the point of musicality and role of poetic image. The Rondels, written in the end of his life, showed us the series of fixed form of symbolical verse as good example of ideal standard including aspects of whole elements of symbolism. Poet Ion Minulescu (1881-1944) developed an art technique of symbolism through the use of prophetic number ‘3’, exotic naming as Xeres, Babilon, inscription of capital letter and practical use of sound of voice etc. He suggested and described exteriorly and in a complex way his poetic thoughts in his Romances and sympathizing with prosodic sentiments. He always prefered to be in the metropolis as the rejoiced world of disturbance and to sail with vessel for the horizontal line, in order to find the mysterious world like enigmas. Minulescu amused exaggeratedly himself in the exterior world of expression through his Romances. The aim of this study is to compare Macedonski's last collection of poems Poema rondelurilor (Poems of Rondel, 1920) and Minulescu's first collection of poems Romanţe pentru mai tîrziu (Romances for later, 1908) written in the beginning of the 20th century. The second chapter is divided into eleven groups according to the major themes of the two poets : contribution of each poet, royal summons of poet, image of love, image of city, nature, escapism, time, death, style of composition, musicality, color scheme. Through this chapter, it is proved that both Macedonski and Minulescu reflect application, development, magnification of new symbolical themes. Art of symbolical poetry, themes and symbolic aesthetics, which were unfolded by Macednoski and Minulescu, affected the evolution and expansion of poetic categories and prosperity of posterior generation in Romanian poetic literature.
