Before 1922 Bajcsy Zsilinszky Endre, who was the MP of Hungarian National Parliament between 1922 and 1936, and one of the most important leader of anti-Nazi movement, had a rigid point of view about the status of Transylvania as defined by political law. After the defeat in World War I and after the following isintegration of the Monarchy, he realized the failure of his decade long national policy and gradually accepted the notion of an independent or self-governing Transylvania. At the time of the Second World War(1938-1945) a concept of a more sensible national policy was maturing in his mind, and later so was the plan of an independent Szekely Republic within the Rumanian state, as he had to give up the idea of the national unity of the country His suggestion for the implementation of this idea was in accordance with the plans of the traditional Transylvanian politicians and stemmed from the historical traditions of the Transylvanian self-government. During the Second World War Bajcsy Zsilinszky Endre suggested a new direction to constitute more idealogical Transylvanian Union which consists of four Bansag regions. This autonomous political body was originally modeled by Count Istvan Bethlen. Comparing with Swiss model, he rejected the Bethlen's original idea of plebiscitary polity and insisted that a self-governing or independent Transylvania should be formed. His idea was never realized unfortunately, but his ideas of a self-governing polity still remain as one of the ideal solutions for multi-ethnic communities which suffer ethnic conflicts today.
