This paper describes the acoustic characteristics of Korean monophthongs that are collected from the korean and chinese male and female. The analyses have been performed with investigations of F1 and F2. F1 concerns the vowel height and F2 is related to the vowel backness. second, the difference between F1 and F2(△[F2-F1] ) can be 떠ed to estimate the degree of vowel backness in the case of rounded back vowels. third, the Euclidean distance between two vowel coordinates in X-Y dimension gives a brief idea about the size and shape of vowel triangle comprised of cardinal 이, 아 and 우. The results are summarized as follows: T-test shows that Chinese male '우' is observed to be lower than that of korean male’s, while all vowels are different in F2 (excluding .에’어’). Chinese female's pronunciation is similar to Korean’s than Chinese male Korean male has longer [u-i] Euclidean distance than Chinese male by the ratio of 3.60. Korean female has longer [i-a] , [a-u] , [u-i] distance. the ratios are 1.87, 1.27, 6.11. The [u-i] distance was very different between Korean and Chinese.
