명사구 접근가능성 계층(NPAH)의 유표성 정도와 외국인 한국어 학습자의 특성

The extent of the markedness of NPAH and the characteristics of Korean language learners

The purpose of this study is to examine the extent of the markedness via Noun Phrase Accessibility Hierarchy(NPAH) developed by Keenan and Comrie (1977) , and αmpare it with the errors of relative constructions generated by Korean language learners. For the purpose of this study, 540 relative sentences created by the learners of Korean language speaking Chinese and Japanese were put to analysis. We have also set a hypothesis related to the markedness of NPAH. The results of this study revealed that the markedness of NPAH and the appearances of errors in the sentences generated by the process of relativization turned out to have no particular correlation. The reason could be that most of the errors made by the learners in relative clauses were attributable to the misuses of Korean attribute forms, which in turn function as the relative marker in Korean relative clauses. Therefore. the frequency of the errors was not determined by the function of the head noun within the main clause. nor inside the relative clauses.
