본 연구에서는 스마트폰의 대명사라 불리는 아이폰의 국내출시를 계기로 스마트폰에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있는 것과 달리 상대적으로 뒤쳐져 있는 국내 스마트폰 고객의 이용행태 및 변화에 대한 심층 조사를 실시하였다. 정량조사가 가지고 있는 단점을 극복하고 스마트폰 이용행태 및 그 변화의 원인을 심층 분석하기 위해, 실질적인 국내 아이폰 초기사용자들-개인전파인증을 통해 아이폰을 사용 중인 사용자들-을 동행관찰 하는 정량적인 방법을 선택하였다. 이를 통해, 본 연구는 다른 향후 연구들의 선행적 연구로서 아이폰을 비롯한 스마트폰 고객의 이용행태 및 성향, 그로 인한 라이프스타일의 변화와 그 본질적인 원인을 설명하고자 하였다. 조사 결과, 아이폰 초기사용자들은 가벼운 음악감상, 트위터와 이메일/일정 확인, 편리하면서도 함께 즐기고 과시할 수 있는 사진첩과 LBS(Location Base Service) 기능을 선호하는 것으로 나타났다. 결국 아이폰 사용자들의 스마트폰 이용행태의 변화는 개인의 라이프스타일 및 IT/미디어 활용패턴에 영향을 미치고 결국 IT 산업에까지 영향을 준다는 것을 알 수 있다. 마지막으로, 관련 분야에서 최초로 정성적 방법을 활용해 수행한 선행적 연구로서의 시사점과 함께, 본 연구의 한계점과 향후 연구방향을 제시하였다.
This study explores the behavioral changes of smartphone users in Korea by shadowing early iPhone users. With the iPhone launch in Korea last November, the public attention on the smartphone has been dramatically increased. However, few studies has focused on exploring and analyzing the user behaviors of the smartphone and its impacts on lifestyle as well as ICT(Information and Communication Technology) environments. This study, therefore, employed the qualitative method, shadowing the early iPhone users in Korea, in order to find the behavioral patterns of smartphone users and the factors explaining its changes. As preliminary study, this study attempted to show the factors explaining the changes of smartphone users' behaviors and lifestyle caused by iPhone. Results indicate that iPhone users prefer listening the music, checking Twitter, email and schedule, taking pictures, and using LBS(Location Base Service). The changes in smartphone users' behaviors have impacts on individuals' lifestyle, the use of IT service and media, and IT industry. With the methodological implication of the shadowing, the limitations of the study and the direction for the future studies are also discussed.
