Narrative for Migration and Locality - Representaion of Migration in Namaste and Goodbye, Circus -

오늘날 전지구화의 흐름에서 진행되고 있는 국경을 넘는 이주는 공간 경계를 교란시키고 해체하면서 기존의 경계선에 대한 의문을 제기한다. 이 과정에서 이주 주체와 공간의 새로운 관계 맺기가 형성된다. 본 논문에서는 국가 경계 넘기의 다양한 현상들이 만들어 내는 새로운 관계가 형성되는 장소를 주목하고 박범신의 『나마스테』, 천운영의 『잘가라, 서커스』를 통해 이주공간이 어떻게 서사적으로 재현되는지를 살펴보았다.『나마스테』는 네팔에서 온 노동자 카밀의 이야기가, 『잘가라, 서커스』는 조선족 결혼이주 여성 림해화의 이야기가 중심 플롯을 형성하며 새로운 정착지에서 주체의 정체성을 모색하는 과정을 그려내고 있다. 인물들은 일차적으로 이국적이고 낯선 이방인의 고행담의 정형성을 보여주고 있으나, 한편으로는 주변부 부천의 가능성, 이방인들의 연대나 환대 안에서 이주 주체의 새로운 정체성을 모색하고 있다. 그러나 소설에서 재현된 공간 경계는 여전히 ‘문턱을 넘지 못하는 선’에서 크게 벗어나지 못하고 있었다. 이주의 서사화는 소재적 차원이나 단순한 공간적 확장의 차원에서 벗어나 혼종적 주체들의 흔적과 역사적 궤적에 대한 진정성으로 이어질 재현전략들에 대한 모색으로 이어져야 할 것이다.

Migration is a process of spatial movement with corresponding emotion, an idea on resources and body. This spatial movement is not only a mere process crossing through a space, but a political process of scale that either creates a new scale or disturbing the existing scale. These relations between a migrating area and a settlement, and those of immigrants and natives need to changeover from the operation of‘clear diving-line’to the relation with‘creative tension.’This paper pays attention to a place for new relationship where diverse phenomena of crossing a national border and a place for producing various differences where homogeneity and heterogeneity continue to cross, and looks at how the migration has been represented in current Korean literature by using the migration as a prerequisite frame of reasoning. In particular, Namaste by Beom-shin Park and Goodbye, Circus by Woon-young Cheon are examined to understand how the migration space is represented. Formulaic aspects such as consistent, exotic and unfamiliar face, a series of penance stories, and eyes of surveillance at the threshold of a border by setting up a‘line forbidding the transcendence of a threshold’, and the position of a narrator having compassion or being accomplice need to be reconsidered. Therefore, it is necessary to spread out a variety of ideas regarding the politics of representation for ‘speaking differently’, which is beyond the logic of the ‘inside.’
