미국 NAEP 미술 평가에 대한 고찰과 시사점

A Study on the Arts NAEP and Implication for the Korean National Assessment of Educational Achievement in art

본 연구의 목적은 국가 주도의 절대 평가인 미국의 국가 교육 성취도 평가(National Assessment of Education Progress: NAEP)중 미술 평가에 대해 살펴보고 우리나라의 국가수준의 미술과 성취도 검사를 위한 기초연구를 제공하고자 한다. 미국의 NAEP은 1969년 창립되었으며 미술 교과의 평가는 최근 1997년과 2008년에 실시되었다. 1997년과 2008년의 NAEP 미술 평가의 배경과 역사, 평가 체제와 관련된 용어,평가 예시 문항의 분석과 채점기준과 평가결과의 논의를 토대로 미술교육에 끼친 영향을 살펴본다. 마지막으로 NAEP 미술 평가의 고찰을 통해 우리나라의 국가 주도의 미 술과 성취도 검사의 필요성과 실시를 위한 시사점을 살펴보고자 한다.

The 2008 NAEP arts assessment in U.S. measured students' knowledge and skills in the arts by asking students to observe, describe, analyze, and evaluate existing works of visual art and to create original works of visual art. This study introduces the arts assessment principles, framework, assessment design process, scoring students' work in the arts, reporting arts results, comparisons between 1997 and 2008. The purpose of this study is to provide the results of 1997 and 2008 NAEP arts assessment and to suggest implication for Korea art educational context. The process of developing assessment design, scoring guides, supervising the assessment procedure in middle schools for the tests is explained. 2008 NAEP arts results inform the public the status of educational progress in public and private schools. The researcher explains the context of the assesment as detailed as possible by providing examples of achievement levels in visual arts. Recent 2009 national curriculum reform by Korean department of Education is to cause art educators to worry about the exclusion of teaching and assessing visual arts in schools systems. Due to the intense concerns of assessment results for university admissions in Korea, students, educators and parents are very interested in the focus on assessment of reading, writing, mathematics, and English. The purpose of this article is to review the literature of NAEP and to suggest the possible large scale assessment for Korean students as 2008 NAEP arts have impact on the field of art education.
