Well-Being of Mothers of Children with Disabilities

본 연구는 장애자녀 어머니의 웰빙의 필요성과 중요성올 강조하가 위하여 가족응집력과 결혼 만족의 매개효과를 중심으로 자녀의 장애정도가 정적 및 부적 차원으로 어머니의 웰빙에 미치는 직접 효과와 매개효과를 검증하여 장애자녀 어머니의 웰빙 모형을 개발하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 발달장애 자녀를 둔 432명의 어머니들을 대상으로 자료 분석은 연구가설의 검증을 통해 관련 변인들 간의 이론적 모형을 검증하고자 구조방정식 모형을 적용하였으며, SPSS/Win 15.0과 AMOS 6 통계패키지를 사용하였다. 가설검증을 기초로 한 연구의 종합적인 결론은 첫째 자녀의 장애정도가 심하면 어머니의 심리적 웰빙이 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다 둘째 자녀의 장애정도가 심하면 어머니의 심리적 웰빙은 낮아지지만 자녀의 장애정도가 결혼만족에는 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다 셋째 자녀의 장애정도가 심하면 가족 응집력이 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 넷째 가족응집력이 높으면 어머니의 심리적 웰빙이 높아지는 결과가 나타났다. 다섯째 자녀의 장애정도가 심할지라도 가족응집력과 결혼만족이 높으면 어머니의 심리적 웰빙은 높아질 수 있다는 결과가 나타났다.

In this study, a relationship among the important variables that affect the well-being of mothers of children of developmental disability is modeled and verified using the structural equation model. Degree of the disability of children is hypothesized using the mothers' psychological resources that may affect the their well-being. In order to verify these hypotheses, a questionary survey was conducted by distributing the questionaries to some selected organizations related to children of developmental disability and schools of special education. A total of 432 questionaries were collected from the mothers of children of developmental disability during the period of June 1 through July 3, 2008. For these analyses, the statistical package of SPSS/Win 5.0 and AMOS 6 was used. In abstract, well-being of mothers of children with developmental disability can be enhanced as the family resources, that is the mothers' psychological resources, such as Family Cohesion and Marital Satisfaction, are strengthened. As the mothers' well-being is enhanced, they can be empowered, which in turn can make them be a healthy partner of specialists so that they can cooperatively construct effective family support programs for the children of disability and their families. This study has a practical significance that, through the verification of the theory of well-being of mothers of children of developmental disability, a working model on their well-being has been developed by the quantitative analysis. It is hoped that this study can be a stimulus to encouraging similar studies on other types of disability.
