장애학생의 고등교육 전환- 적응 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초연구

A Study of Examining the Transition-Adjustment Experiences of Five College Students with Disabilities

특수교육대상자 대학입학 특별전형제도의 도입으로 인해 대학에 소속된 장애학생들의 수가 많이 증가했음에도 불구하고 아직까지도 상당수의 장애대학생들이 학업 사회 정의적 측면에서 여러 가지 형태의 어려움에 직면하고 있다 장애학생들이 경험하는 어려움은 여러 차례 학계에 보고되어 왔으나 어떻게 하면 이 학생들이 대학생활에 적응할 수 있도록 도와줄 수 있을지에 대한 논의는 그리 깊이 진행되지 못했다 따라서 이 연구에서는 장애를 가진 학생 명의 대학생활경험을 동하여 장애대학생들이 성공적인 학교생활에 도움을 줄 수 있는 전환 적응 프로그램의 개발을 위한 기초자료를 수집하고자 하였다 성공적으로 1년간의 대학 생활을 마쳤다고 생각되는 학년생 명올 추천받아 면담법을 통해 그들의 대학 진학 준비 및 신입생으로서의 대학 생활 경험에 대한 자료를 수집하였다 수집된 자료는 연구대상자 확인과 동료평가의 과정을 거쳐 타당도를 확보하고 사례간 비교 분석법을 통해 대학생들의 경험에서부터 장애학생의 성공적 적응에 도움을 줄 고등교육 적응 프로그램에 관련된 요소들을 도출하였다 이 학생들의 대학으로의 전환과 적응 성공에 기여한 요소로는 대학진학동기, 삶에 대한 만족감, 목적의식을 갖춘 적극성, 자기 주도적 문제해결력이 있었다. 장애대학생들이 생각하기에 대학으로의 전환과 적응에 성공하는데 필요한 요소들에는 고등학교의 입시지원 확대 학업기술의 개발, 교수적 수정과 지원의 확충이 있었다. 연구에 참여한 장애대학생들의 경험을 통해 장애학생들이 고등교육으로의 전환하여 적응하는데 도움이 될 수 있는 적응 프로그램의 내용과 관련 지원에 대하여 논의와 제언을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to examine the experiences of college students with disabilities in terms of their transition from high schools and adjustment to colleges. In this study, five college freshmen were involved, who were recognized as being successfully adjusted to the new environment. Three interviews per student were conducted. Using cross-case analysis, these students' experiences were summarized in terms of preparations for college entrance exams and adjustment in the first year at college. Successful college students with disabilities had strong motivation for pursuing higher education in order for their future, satisfactions with their school lives, activeness, and self-initiated problem-solving. In addition, these students believed that increased support from high schools, academic skill development, and increased instructional support from colleges. From the experiences college students with disabilities had, suggestions on transition programs in secondary schools and higher education were made. Secondary schools and colleges should provide deliberate support that helps to meet the transitional needs of students with disabilities. Specifically, college preparatory classes and induction for students with disabilities were suggested.
