대학 교양교육과정의 개념과 운영 방향에 관한 연구

본 연구는 바람직한 인성교육의 혁신과 실천방안을 모색해 보려는 다양한 시도의 한 방편으로서, 대학에서의 바람직한 인성교육을 위해 교양교육과정의 운영을 어떻게 해야 할 것인지 그 방향을 모색하는데 연구의 목적이 있다. 이를 통하여 구체적인 연구의 목적을 열거하면 다음과 같다. 첫째는 교양교육의 변천을 통해 교양교육의 개념을 살펴보고, 둘째는 교양교육과 인성교육과의 관계를 알아보고, 셋째는 효과적인 교양교육과정 운영의 장애요인을 찾아보고, 넷째는 효과적인 교양교육과정 운영을 위한 방향을 제시하고자 한다.

The purpose of this article is to provide the conception and objectives of general education to humane education, and to offer some guidelines and directions to obtain the desired results of general education at university. It is divided into four parts. The first section of the article includes the conception and objectives of the general education in a historical context. The second section considers the relations of general education to humane education. The third section explores the impedimental causes to obtain the desired results on the operation process of general education. The final section suggests some guidelines and directions that might be followed during the operating process of general education to humane education. The meaning of general education derived from liberal education. Liberal education, an education capable of liberating persons from ignorance and making them intellectually and morally autonomus, is superior to vocational training. It concerned primarily with the development of distinctive human abilities. The general education is designed to foster an activity of mind, the specialist course utilises this activity. It play the important role of cultivating natural intelligence and then moving forward to prepare persons for those situations they are likily to meet in contemporary society. It should be universal in scope and pay solicitous attention to all future citizens, to free persons who cannot help but make independent judgments in an evolving society and in their personal lives. This article suggests six guidelines as follows: (1) the members of university, such as faculties, students, and authorities, should appreciate the nature, the objectives, and the importance of general education: (2) the faculites and authorities should study on the objectives and patterns of general education, and should participate in continuous development and investment for desirable general education as humane education : (3) they should formulate the basic principles and follow those rules: (4) they should exert every effort on developing the supplementary instruction program to humanize students: (5) the organization that takes the complete charge of operating process for general course, should be set up in university: (6) the systematical controlling and supporting apparatus should be prepared to improve the instruction of general course.
