In order to pronounce English consonants perfectly, the EFL learner needs exact knowledge of the pronunciation of his/her mother tongues consonants. In this respect, the researcher asked some questions about English pronunciation to EFL learners and analyzed their answers. This paper compares the result of this analysis with the findings of articulatory phoneticians. From the comparison, it is found that EFL learners lack of exact knowledge about the pronunciation of their mother tongue consonants. It is therefore hard for them to pronounce English consonants perfectly, since they cannot identify the differences of pronunciation between Korean and English consonants. This situation results from the absence of teaching Korean consonant pronunciation in Korean education and in English pronunciation instruction. In both areas, teachers appear to pay insufficient attention to the learners' abilities in the mother tongue, and fail to teach the exact sound and pronunciation of Korean segments. This gives learners no basis or foundation for pronouncing English perfectly and easily.
