An Exemplary Teaching Model for Development of Classroom Friendly Teachers : Elvis Presley--Story of a Super Star

The Korea National University of Education was established to be a leading university in providing exemplary teacher education in Korea. As a consequence, the university had a competition for the development of “exemplary teaching model for development of classroom-friendly teachers” in 2009. The university defined the classroom friendly teachers as “excellent teachers who teach well in the field”. This study was conducted in order to fulfill the effort made by the university, and was subsequently selected as a superior study from the competition. This study consists of four parts: teacher presentation using multimedia PPT; students presentation either as a group or as an individual; a review exercise whereby learners fill in the blanks after listening to a narration of Elvis Presley in American English and British English, and then recording and uploading each students’ recording about Elvis and along with all other multimedia contents on the course web page so that students can use the resources for later use. This researcher attempted to produce a lesson that created a space in which the community of truth would be practiced, as Palmer (1960) had suggested, by showing that real learning does not happen until students are brought into a relationship with the teacher, with each other, and with the subject and we cannot learn well until a community of learning is created in the classroom. Furthermore, this study was framed for students to learn the subject through head(cognitive domain), feel by heart(affective domain), and demonstrate their knowledge by doing(psychomotor domain), so that students may acquire knowledge through their own experiences.
