魏晉代에서의 서예창작 이상

The ideal of calligraphic creation in the age of Wei and Chin dynasties of China

유구한 서예사에서 볼 때 위진대에서는 그 어느 시대보다 서예의 예술성에 관한 발전이 더욱 뚜렷하였다고 보고, 그 본원을 王羲之의 『書論』에서 제기한 소위 ‘意在筆前’에서 찾아 재조명하고자 하였다. 왕희지는 그의 『書論』에서 서예작품에서의 書意를 얻기 위한 ‘의재필전’을 말하였는데, 이것은 서예 창작이 더 이상 한대에서의 서조자연적 창작 이상에 머무르지 않고 심의에까지 이르러야 한다는 것을 상징한다. 이러한 왕희지의 ‘의재필전’으로 서예는 비로소 하나의 독립된 예술 분야로의 진입을 완성하게 되었다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 물론 ‘의재필전’의 경지에 도달한 서예가는 오늘날 현재까지 아무도 없다고 본다. 따라서 이 이상은 좀 허황된 것이라고 생각할 수 있으나 서예가 도달하여야할 하나의 궁극적 청사진을 제공한 것으로 볼 때 그 의의는 실로 지대하다고 보아야할 것이다. 그리고 書寫로서의 서예가 독립된 하나의 완전한 예술로서 감상의 대상으로 발전하게 되었을 뿐만 아니라, 나아가 하나의 기예를 넘어 도와 같은 경지로 발전하게 되었다는 것, 그리고 유사 이래 오늘날까지 서예에 대한 끝없는 열정과 탐색을 야기하고 탈속된 고아한 높은 예술적 경지를 확보하게 한 것에도 그 가치와 의의를 두어야 할 것이다

In the age of Wi and Jin, calligraphy developed more conspicuously than any other previous age and I tried to find the cause in the idiom, 'Eui-Jae-Pil-Jeon(意 , Intention should be established before writing letter. 在筆前Namely, write letter after establishing intention.) mentioned in the book 『Seo-Ron(書論)』 written by Wang Hsi-Chih(王羲之). In his written, 『Seo-Ron(書論)』, Wang Hsi-Chih suggested Eui-Jae-Pil-Jeon to acquire Seo-Eui(書意, meaning of written letters), which symbolizes that the ideal of calligraphic creation should reach Sim-Eui (心意, intention of mind), transcending Seo-Jo-Ja-Yeon (書肇自然, Since letters begin from nature, calligraphy has to resemble nature.) in the age of Han(漢). It can be said that calligraphy was finally recognized as one independent area of art thanks to Eui-Jae-Pil-Jeon of Wang Hsi-Chih. Needless to say, no calligrapher has reached the level of Eui-Jae-Pil-Jeon as yet, but the meaning is very significant. First, though this ideal may be somewhat imaginary, it can be seen as one of the ultimate goal that calligraphy should reach. Second, this gave an opportunity by which calligraphy could develop to be an object of appreciation as one independent art. Third, transcending the level of technology and art, calligraphy developed to the level of Do(道, truth). Fourth, this gave an opportunity to research calligraphy with endless passion since its beginning and secure elegant and high artistic level.
