The true condition of modernism should be found in the process of destroying the established social system and paradigm and creating a new one. Korean modern poetry, derived from 1930s poets such as Yi Sang, Kim Girim, however, has focused on experiments with poetic form and signifiant play without meaning. This might be due not only to continuous frustrating political oppression but also to Korean literary climate, in which imitating forms of western modernism was enough to pose as a cuttingedge modernist. Korean native modernity, however, sprouted after the liberation from 1950s Song uk's poem by lampooning contemporary reality critically and experiencing modern word play. It acquired reality through Shin dongyeop's historical consciousness, Kim Suyeong's use of realistic everyday language etc., and in 1970s reached its watershed moment by Kim Jiha, Korean avantgarde poet. Satirizing contemporary reality with the spirit of political subversion, the practice of beauty by storytelling and satire style and various genre parodies-not only traditional literary genres such as Korean folk songs, Pansori, shamanic songs, Gyeonggichega but also subgenres such as Wuxia stories, Lord's Prayer-, Kim Jiha has taken countermeasures against the existing pariah capitalism, which has become a paragon to later Korean modernists and an important milestone to Korean avantgarde poetry.
