영어수업에서 텔레프레즌스형 로봇 활용의 효과성 연구

Effectiveness of applying telepresence type robots in English class

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effectiveness of using robots to aid English teachers on students’ achievement and affective traits. KIST and RASTECH, Inc. developed the telepresence type robots, respectively. The two telepresence type robots were employed to teach English to the elementary students in Daejeon and Masan areas. A total of 48 students participated in twomonth experiments. English listening/reading and speaking tests were developed and administered with a pre- and post-test design. Also, we developed a student questionnaire to measure various students’ affective traits. The results showed that both telepresence type robots were effective in improving students’ speaking ability but not in listening/reading ability. It also indicated that students were satisfied with using the robots in the class, and that students’ interest in studying English, self-confidence in using English, and motivation for English improved
