A Study on the Employment Accessibility of Bogeumjari Housing

1. CONTENTS (1) RESEARCH OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study is to analyze the extent and degree of employment accessibility of Bogeumjari Housing in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (SMA) using Hansen's gravity-type accessibility measure. (2) RESEARCH METHOD With the consideration of actual commuting patterns, the negative exponential models of accessibility were estimated according to the occupation of commuters. Such an accessibility measure was applied to the four selected Bogeumjari Housing sites. (3) RESEARCH FINDINGS The results demonstrated that two Bogeumjari Housing sites such as Umyeon and Sekok have high accessibilities to the employment opportunities. In contrast, the accessibilities of the other two sites are lower than the SMA average. The result also showed that the distribution of employment opportunities are quite different according to the occupation. 2. RESULTS The implication of this research is that a certain group of workers need to be provided a better opportunity to make a shorter commute since they tend to spend a lower percentage of their disposable income on commuting. Much emphasis should be paid to the characteristics of workers when the public housing is provided.
