치전 제문의 형식과 애도의 표현양상

A Study on the literary genre to mourn the death

인간의 죽음을 애도하는 한문학의 고유한 문예양식의 하나로서 祭文의 개념에 대하여는 그동안 여러 논자들의 견해 가운데 일치하지 않는 부분이 있었다. 이 글에서는 상례의 弔喪 절차에 사용되는 致奠祭文을 일반 제의의 고축문과 구별하여, 그 형식상의 특성과 내용 진술의 양상과 그 특징을 논하였다. 이 논의를 통하여 제문 개념에 대한 일단의 혼선을 정리하고,인간의 죽음을 애도하는 치전제문을 告祝文이나 哀辭 등 다른 유사 양식과 변별하는데 사용될 수 있는 몇 가지 특징들을 제시하였다. 치전제문은형식상으로 제의 절차의 한 부분으로 개입한다는 점에서 고축문과 유사한점이 있으나, 내용상으로는 특정한 인간의 죽음을 애도하는 내용을 담는다는 점에서는 애사와 유사한 점이 있다. 그러나 치전제문은 의식절차상의 기능에 있어서 여러 점에서 고축문과 구별될 뿐 아니라, 내용에 있어서도 인간관계의 단절에 따른 상실감과 좌절감을 기축으로 비탄과 회한의사적인 정서를 토로한다는 점에서 다른 유사 양식과는 변별될 수 있다. 치 전제문은 인간의 죽음에 직접 애도의 정서를 표하는 것을 미덕으로 여겼던 관습에서 유래한 문예양식으로, 인간관계의 도리를 존중하는 한문문학의 특징적인 장르의 하나라 할 것이다.

The condolence for the death of a man, which called as Chijun-Jemun(致奠祭 文), is one of the traditional literary genre of the Korean classics written inChinese. There are still no agreement about the concept of Jemun(祭文) among scholars. In the course of the funeral, some mourners who are in a close relationship, offers sacrifices for the dead, and reads the eulogy to honor the dead. Then I call it Chijun-Jemun, in other word, condolence for the death of a man. The content and style of it is distinguished from the benediction(祝文) that is a brief introduction of the procedure in funeral or memorial service. The dominated emotion in Chijun-Jemun(致奠祭文) is feelings of loss and frustration caused by the severance of the human relationship. Death of a person gets a severance of relationship, the severance of relationships forces permanent split. Therefore, in this style, the recall of the human relationship and praise of the virtues of one person is converted into grief and regret. This phenomenon of discribing grief has been shaped by the Confucian tradition that respect the duty of human relationships.
