Development of a narrative field, its causes and characteristics

This study examines a narrative field in the context of studies of oral literature. Even a distinguished narrator cannot be from the context of a narrative field. The diverse contexts of a narrative field affect a narrator and their story telling to a great extent. Therefore, this study aims to examine the elements and characteristics of a narrative field which strengthens the narrative capacity of speakers and diversifies story telling. This study classified five elements of activating a narrative field：1) the stability of story telling conditions and proper number of audiences 2) faithful and active audiences with strong reactions 3) more then two speakers who will make a shift of story telling 4) a speaker with a specific profession 5) absence of religious influence. A narrative field is determined by various elements such as a speaker, audiences and many variables of performance. Therefore, the capacity of a speaker is strongly dependent on such variables and the recording of story telling in performing sites need nuanced and sophisticated approaches. In order to discover an outstanding speaker, it is necessary to have nuanced understanding on a narrative field. The understanding on a narrative field should be accompanied with the sophisticated recording of story telling and deeper studies on speakers.
