Study on the Determinants of Employment in Korean Small and Medium Enterprises

Recently, job searching is one of the most important issues for university students. Most of the people prefer to work for a large corporation rather than small and medium enterprises(SMEs). However, SMEs accounts for 99.9% of the number of the companies in Korea and they play an important role in our economy. Furthermore, due to the recent serious recession, it is also difficult for the job-seekers to get a job in SMEs. In this study, we tried to find out the determinants of employment in Korean SMEs using the survey data. The results showed that the scores of the authorized english tests such as TOEFL and TOEIC, the kinds of major, and the level of the knowledge on overall economy are the influential factors of employment in SMEs. We expect that our results will be useful in planning the employment strategies of the personnel directors in SMEs.
