The Coping․Adjustment and Self-Concept of Siblings with Children with Disabilities

본 연구는 장애아동 형제자매의 대처․적응(coping․adjustment)과 자아개념(self-concept)의 수준 및 상관관계, 그리고 대처․적응에 영향을 미치는 자아개념 요인에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. D지역에 거주하는장애아동의 형제자매 38명을 대상으로 장애아동 형제자매 대처․적응 척도와 자아개념 검사를 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 장애아동 형제자매의 대처․적응과 자아개념의 수준은 평균 이상으로 나타났다. 장애아동형제자매의 대처․적응능력과 자아개념은 정적 상관관계를 나타내었으며, 대처․적응능력에 영향을 미치는 자아개념의 하위영역은 신체외모와 부모관계에 대한 자아개념인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구 결과를 중심으로 장애아동 형제자매의 긍정적 대처와 적응을 위한 지원방안을 제시하였다

The study investigated the levels of the coping․adjustment and the self-concept of sibling with children with disabilities, correlation between them, and influencing factors of self-concept on the siblings' coping․adjustment. The study included 38 siblings who reside on D province, and the siblings responded on the Coping/Adjustment Scale for Children of Siblings with Disabilities and Self Concept Inventory. The results of the study showed that the levels of the coping․adjustment and the self-concept were the above of the mean. The study also resulted that the coping․adjustment and the self-concept were positively correlated. As well, the study showed that the sibling's coping․adjustment was influenced by the physical appearance and the relationship with parents which were factors of the self-concept. The study indicated implications and suggestions to be able to assist the siblings' positive coping and adjustment.
