For modern people, the lighting is crossing over essential factors and expanding its boundaries to the subjects who finds active pleasure in it. This makes life a bit more glossy by going one step above a mere functional concept and arousing people's emotions. The lighting system of new concept would become a tool to feel the design through a little change in life for modern people who are buried in places of shriveled and uniform lighting areas such as apartments or offices. Through this study, I have considered a way to effectively express our life and the necessity to graft designs using a variety of designs. Therefore, this thesis has presented a whole new concept of design by grafting shape memory alloy, one of latest materials, with the lighting system. The greatest advantage of this material was that it makes semi-permanent movements without additional power becauseit reacts to the light's temperature. Another advantage is that as the shape memory alloy develops further, the extent of its usage or the range of its functions would become more diverse and it would be worthwhile to perform research on it considering the fact that the extent of design's usage would become broader as a result. Using the characteristics of shape memory alloy which reacts to temperature, I have designed a lighting system which alternates itself at the time of switching on or switching off the light by grafting it with the light coming out from the system. This makes two different shapes and functions by the movement which shape memory alloy depending on the existence or nonexistence of power. While it gives a feeling as a mere modeling article, it gets to function as a lighting system by the light being emitted through the gaps created by altering the shape of that model as the shape memory alloy begins to operate if the power is supplied. Through this study, I have attempted to present unlimited potential which the grafting of new materials and designs can bring to our lives. Through this, I hope for a more active performance of such operations and to move a step closer toward the design which can make the lives of modern people more abundant.
