A Study on Gyeongsan Elvan Buncheong Ware -Centering Around Sanjeon-ri Buncheong Ware-

The area of Sanjeon-ri, Namcheon-myeon, Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do is a designated celadon site for Gyeongsangbuk-do Monument #40. It has been believed that it had been a large-scale production site for elvan buncheong ware for about 200 years from about 600 years ago and it was presented to the king as tribute in early Joseon Dynasty. In particular, considering that the elvan buncheong ware was produced by using the highest-quality elvan in Namcheon area, it could be pointed out that the first functional pottery was produced in the history of Korean and world pottery. In this regard, this study was aimed to reveal the production techniques of brilliant elvan buncheong ware applied with Gyeongsan elvan and to revive it through technical restoration. For this study, an archaeological analysis on elvan buncheong ware applied with Gyeongsan elvan was conducted and its subsequent historical inquiries and on-site surface survey was performed. Then, the study attempted to uncover its production techniques through geo-scientific analysis for elvan buncheong ware specimens extracted and to actualize the technical revival based on the said findings.
