Anne Wilson employs conceptual strategies and perceptual responses to blur the boundaries between categories of artistic practices in original. Utilizing human hair and cloth as primary materials and a form of artworks traditionally associated with domestic hand stitching. Her engagement with hair and cloth evokes fetish and conceptual meaning since 1990. Wilson's works represent the new territory on a conceptual and physical level and reveal her ongoing commitment to probing the histories and memories embedded in fetish objects. Her work compiles into a sort of epic narrative, full of domestic incident and charged with a sexuality that dissolves into allegory. She explores the soft and fugitive qualities of hair materials in work by standing between fetishism and allegory, placed itself as well between mind and body. Artwork that intercedes between art-about-art and art-about-life, will inevitably seek those reconciliations in the personal and social context. The intercession takes place the art world where political and social issues are resolved. The hair that Wilson stitches to the surface of the cloth recalls the lives that come and go in the family that curates both the cloth and the memory of its provenance. Her 'found object' is where we enter the space of the body and the social unconscious of its memory, through the warm imprint of its clothing and the history of skin.
