Woven Forms that Lenore Tawney, American fiber artist, has called means the secession from the traditional weaving art as used to exhibition title who Paul Smith curated it at Museum of Contemporary Crafts , New York in 1963. Woven form has concept the abstract three dimentional sculptural forms, hanging free on the ceiling, breaking from the wall and standing free on the floor. It is very important that woven forms opened the horizon of the contemporary fiber arts as make a turning point of the American Fiber Movement in 1960s and 1970s. Tapestry weaving art based on function leaded many of words like a wall hanging, soft sculpture through carrying out an experiment on diverse medium and techniques on the new recognition with appeared artist/weaver. Many artists made some creative works as a art form. Lenore Tawney, Claire Zeisler and Sheila Hicks of them who studied on techniques about ancient Peruvian textiles particularly are called 3 persons of innovative fiber artist of the U.S.A. These people expanded previous traditional fiber arts to soft sculpture that fiber has properties of materials and more sculptural form and we knows that they were pioneers of fiber arts for the 80s. So I tried to study about some samples of expansion way of the post-traditional fiber arts as did analysis of works' characteristics of them.
