Sangju-mok is the representative production area of Joseon Bunchungsagi(A grayish blue powdered celadon). It was Sangju-mok where Kamyoung(The Supreme Local Govement Office) in Gyeongsang-do was located at in the former term of Joseon and there was the important spot of transportation for paying a tribute of Gyeongsang-do to Deokheungchang in Chungju via Sangju across the Nakdong River. I think that the pottery handicraft system had made great development in Sangju because of geographic proximity and therefore high quality ceramic ware had produced. But the fact is there is no clear research on pottery in Sangju until now. This paper is mainly about the study on the ceramic kiln site around san 66,67,69 Sangpan-ri Modong-myeon, Sangju Si, Gyeongbuk where was found with some kiln sites during flood season in August in 2009 from late Goryeo to early Joseon dynasty period. There were the only 4 high quality potteries among 139 potteries in Korea written on the Sejongsillokjiriji(Gazetteer of the Annals of king Sejong, in 1454). It is inferred that the high quality pottery at Yimioe-Lee(이미외리) in eastern Jungmo-hyeon of Sangju is the Sangpan-ri pottery is founded now. Prior to this study, I think the research is needed more about the ceramic production status of kiln site in Gun, Hyeon under Sangju-mok, government policy of handicraft ,and personage policy on Sangju-mok in early Joseon. Therefore, I made the field survey on pottery around Sangpan-ri under Sangju and especially researching on Goryeong-hyeon among Gun, Hyeon under Sangju-mok. The main subject on this study is focused on the systematical approach to the pottery at Sangpan-ri founded lately as identifying the high quality pottery around Sangju-mok. Through this study, I hope to contribute to resolving the question about the government policy of pottery management in early Chosun.
