A general introduction to the Dongba character

나시족 동파교의 종교행사를 위해 만들어진 동파도화상형문자는 현재 1300여자가 전해지고 있다. 나시족은 운남에 주로 분포되어 살고 있으며, 이곳은 인류 원시문화를 이해하는데 매우 소중한 문화유산을 간직하고 있다. 또한 산과 강으로 막힌지리적 조건으로 인해 외부와 차단되었기 때문에 오히려 고유의 문화를 지속적으로 이어올 수 있었다.동파도화상형문자는 현재 문자 발전단계를 연대기적으로 보여주고 다섯 가지의형태가 존재하고 있다. 따라서 동파도화상형문자에 대한 깊은 연구는 이집트 상형문자, 설형문자, 갑골문자 등의 기원 등 문자 변천과정을 연구하는데 많은 도움이되리라 본다.

About 1300 hieroglyphic Dongba letters were found and reported to be created-1000 years ago by the Naxi tribe in order to worship their gods。The Naxi tribe lived in the Red-clay Plateau of Yunnan province, China. It is one of the birthplaces of human being, and an important crossway of many cultures。The unusual geographic environment which is isolated by mountains and rivers, preserves a distinctive quality of its cultural diversity。 Dongba characters include a five different stage of letter patterns showing a chronological development of these letters。 Studies on the Dongba characters can, hence, provide a further insight into the understanding of ancient letters such as the Egyptian hieroglyphic, the cuneiform characters and inscriptions in bones tortoise carapaces。
