한국 금석학에 나타난 서예 연구의 문제점

Challenges of the Calligraphy Study in the Korean Epigraphy

도제식 교육에 머물렀던 서예 교육이 대학이라는 제도권 안으로 들어온 지 20여년이 되었다. 그동안 서예는 예술로서 또 학문으로서 괄목할 만한 성장을 이룩했으나, 여전히 몇몇 문제에 직면해 있다. 이러한 여러 가지 문제 중에서 금석학에서의서예 연구의 문제점을 찾아보고 그 원인을 규명하여 한국 금석학에서의 서예 연구가 좀 더 진보할 수 있는 계기를 마련해보고자 하는 것이 이 논문의 목적이다.불과 얼마 전까지만 해도 새로 출토된 금석문 연구는 고고학 ․ 사학 ․ 문학계를중심으로 이루어졌기 때문에 금석문의 서체나 서풍에 대한 연구는 개론적인 차원에서 주로 다루어졌다. 또한 서예학자들의 입장에서 보면 거기에는 적지 않은 오류가 있었다. 여기에는 여러 가지 원인이 있겠으나 그 중 하나는 서예 연구의 중요성이 크게 부각되지 않았고, 따라서 그 연구가 전문가에 의해서 이루어지지 않았기때문이라고 생각한다.따라서 본고에서는 먼저 20여 년 동안 대학에서 연구된 금석학에서의 서예 연구의 문제점을 짚어보고 그 원인을 서예학에서의 금석문 연구의 문제점에서 찾아보고자 했다. 대표적으로 한 대학에서 연구된 16년간의 석 ․ 박사학위논문을 중심으 로 살펴 본 그 문제점들은 금석학에 대한 관심도의 결여, 내용에 대한 연구 미진,타학문과의 연계성의 부족이라고 여겨져 그 부분들의 집중적으로 조명해 보았다.이러한 문제점들이 점차적으로 해결된다면 장기적으로 금석학 속에서 서예학의위상이 높아질 뿐만 아니라, 대학에서 서예학도 희귀학문으로서 깊이 뿌리내릴 수있을 것이라고 생각한다.

It has been more than twenty years since calligraphy had been recognized as a field of study at universities. During those times, calligraphy, as an art and as a scholarship, has made a great progress. Nonetheless, it faces several challenges. Among the challenges, I would like to search the problems of calligraphy study in the Korean epigraphy and investigate the cause. Therefore, study of calligraphy would be able to evolute remarkably. Until recent times, the study of calligraphy was mostly performed in the fields of history, archaeology, and literature. Accordingly, a study of calligraphic style was mentioned briefly, and a few mistakes were often discovered. One of the reasons for that is because the study was not executed by experts. This study therefore tries to find the problems of calligraphy study in the epigraphy and its cause in the problems of epitaph study. The problems seem to arise from the lack of interest level, incompletion of contents research, and lack of connection with other scholarships. So I try to seek the solution of the problems from above three aspects. If the problems are gradually resolved in the long view, the position of calligraphy, as a scholarship, in the Korean epigraphy would be able to be enhanced, and the study of calligraphy would also be developed.
