Hanji tlcorean paper ) as alkaline paper. porous and breathable.goes along with a recent eco- friendly trend. ji seung cra ftsmanship. one of invaluable cultural herit ages embodying the traditional beauty of Korean cu-t and dating back to the birth of paper . is lamentabl y disappearing in modern lifestyle. The study is intended to bring ji seung relics together and develop cultural goods to which ji seung techniqu e applied and yet boasting their pract icality and unique charm, The arrived conclusions are as follows: First. Korea is the one and only country in the world in which we twist paper into a stri ng and weave it to make goods for living. Having such a unique heritage and putting it into act ual practice merit our pride. Second, There are few craftsmen, dedicated to this art , and not enough number of and less diverse range of goods. The centra l and local government agencies need to support to draw public attention to traditional cultura l technique. Third, There are only a handful of goods produced with ]i seung technique. The steep price of goods requiring lacquer finish can be dealt with by targeting a specific interested purchase r. More diver se goods should be urgentl y developed and mass produced. Fourth, Time can be saved, if traditional ] iseung technique and product ion processes become simplified. And we need to turn our attention to developing product s made of not only Hanji tl( orean paper ), but also of merged materials including mixed with cotton or wood. If we can come up with a senes of goods to be used for daily necessities and sty le and design of which can appeal to the public, then cultural goods produced by ] iseung technique can surely gain international competitiveness. The cultural goods with ji seung craftsmanship can stand out and draw univer sal acclamation, if we align them with a global trend, while keeping the spiri t and charac teristic intact.
