The Study on Characterization Analysis in Celadon of Hae Nam

Throughout its historical development, Korean cerarruc can be largely classified into earthenware, celadon porcelain, fine porcelain, white porcelain, etc. Green-celadon porcelain began to be made from an age similar to the beginning of celadon porcelain but it has been out of people's attention, regarded as nominal low class celadon porcelain. Now we must re illuminate the unique value of green celadon porcelain by explaining its characteristics as a noteworthy stream of traditional ceramic that appeared in unique form temporarily in the southern province in Korea. As one of such efforts , the present study purposed to investigate the sites of green celadon potteries scattered around Sani myun and Hwawon myun in Haenarn gun, which have not been studied exhausteclly, to analyze the clay and glaze of collected remains from the sites to infer the characteristics and the ceramics of green celadon porcelain, to identify differences and similarities among localities, and to suggest methods of preservation and revival of Haenam green celadon porcelain that has been kept unknown. In addition, this study purposed to keep the records of pottery sites and excavated remains that are being destroyed by various development projects, to analyze and explain the unique characteristics of Haenam green- celadon porcelain that has not been fully studied and classified in the history of ceramics and, consequently, to establish the superiority and identity of Korean ceramics. For these purpose, we reviewed various literatures and materials relevant to green- celadon porcelain in order to analyze the characteristics of pottery sites and green- celadon porcelain in the Haenam area, and collected broken pieces of Haenam green- celadon porcelain assumed to have been made in around the 10th century, the heyday of Haenam celadon porcelain and classified them according to manufacturing method, pattern and decoration. That is, the characteristics of green-celadon porcelain in terms of manufacturing method and clay used were identified, and broken pieces of green celadon porcelain collected from jinsan ri, Sani myun and Sindeok ri, Hwawon myun were examined. The scope of research includes the occurrence of green-celadon porcelain around Haenam and the level of ceramic technology and the developmental process of styles based on historical materials and, based on the findings, we summarized the concept and nature of green-celadon porcelain and its position in the history of ceramics and looked for methods of preserving, inheriting and developing Haenam green-celadon porcelain.
