Making of Manufacturing Techniques of Traditional Pitae Lacquer wares

The art of Korean lacquering has a history of thousands of years. The objects made by ancient Korean masters demonstrate th eir adva nced skills and craf tsmans hip. However , there are few records remaining th at describe how and by whom they were made. Consequ entl y, the technique of lacqu ering has been lost. It is necessary to rediscover the forgotten process in order to make authenti c Korean product s that can be commercialized. In this study, we are aiming to rediscover, moderni ze and standardize techniques used by ancient mast er s. Th e techniques and procedure established in this study will be applied to develop new product s that arc more bcncfitable and useful for more practical applications.
