The design of ornaments is an outstanding cultural heritage of Korean nation. Koreans have a great pride on this heritage, which by far excels in comparison with other nations in the world The design of metal ornaments with their world-famed ingenuity and magnificence, flourished all through the Korean history, from the Three kingdom period to the Chosun dynasty. The design of metal ornaments, exhibiting outstanding aesthetic sensibility and reflecting the beauty of Korean natural environments, in harmony with locality, constitutes a representative symbol of peculiar beauty of Korean design. The goal of this study is to research the kinds, materials, forms, and patterns of women' s hair ornaments of Chosun dynasly, well-known for their artistic valu e and also for their practical utility. By slriving for a deeper understanding of women' s hair ornaments of Chosun dynasty, this study aims to provide a new opportunity to reevaluate the peculiarities of ornaments arts of this period and at the same time to find out the influences and implicalions on the development of Korean contemporary ornaments design. Virtually all the design fields in Korea have been penetrated by unprecedented influx of Western culture and tradition, and a result, biased interests and even imitational instincts toward Western design constitutes the mainstream in the Korean design industry. Ornaments design is no excepti on to this trend . We need to correct this trend without further delay and , in stead, inherit and develop Korean traditional design cul ture in the field of ornaments design A way to guarantee the intern ational competitive edge of Korean ornaments industry in the future would be the deve lopment of original ornaments brands and design, reflecting the Korea' s traditional peculi arities and originalities.
